Twist On a Classic: The Caramel Apple

Anyone else a fan of a l l  t h i n g s  F a l l ?

Here at IRL, we love working in the beautiful weather that comes with the change of seasons. And of course, all the yummy things to eat this time of year!

With that said, we wanted to share a twist on a classic Fall treat – the caramel apple. Whether you are hosting a harvest party or your family enjoys caramel apples like we do, this blog is for you!

So, let’s kick it off with a Marbled Caramel Apple recipe published in the Better Homes and Gardens October 2019 issue.

What you’ll need:
8 apples
8 skewers
16 ounces vanilla caramels
1 ½ tablespoons heavy cream
12 ounces of milk chocolate candy melts
8 ounces of white chocolate candy melts
Instructions:

  1. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Insert skewers into ends of apples
  3. Microwave caramels and cream (on high) for 1 to 1 ½ minutes, stirring every 30 seconds.
  4. Dip apples into caramel mixture and allow to dry.
  1. Microwave chocolate candy melts for 1 – 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds.
  2. Repeat with white chocolate candy melts.
  3. Transfer ¾ of the milk chocolate candy to another microwave safe glass measuring cup. And place the remaining milk chocolate and all of the white chocolate into separate resealable plastic bags.
  4. Snip a hole in the corner of each bag.
  5. Heavy drizzle the white chocolate (in lines going into the same direction) over the chocolate coating in the measuring cup then lightly drizzle the milk chocolate (in lines going into the opposite direction as the white chocolate).
  6. Repeat step 5 until all of the chocolate in the bags is used.
  7. Dip a caramel apple in half – two thirds in and twist it to a swirl as you pull the apple out of the chocolate to create the marble coating.
  8. Place apple back on parchment paper, repeat with the remaining apples and let sit.

Once the chocolate has set there is only one more thing to do…enjoy!

If you  prefer simpler recipes, then maybe a caramel apple bar is just what you need.

A caramel apple bar makes it easy to cater to everyone’s favorite {sweet or salty} toppings!

What toppings go great with caramel and apples, you ask? Well, to name a few…

Chopped peanuts          Mini chocolate chips          Coconut          Mini marshmallows

Mini M&Ms          Chopped toffee          Sprinkles

And what is great, is you can use full apples or apple slices for easy dipping!

Want to try another fun twist? Dip your apples in melted chocolate and then add your toppings!
